FAQ
Your VIN is generally easy to find. Start by looking these two places:
- On the visible VIN tag/visible VIN plate found beneath the bottom, driver side corner of your windshield (most accurate)
- On the Safety Compliance Certification Label/Door Certification Label usually found in the driver’s door jamb area
If you take your VIN from a source other than your vehicle, please take a moment to confirm it by comparison to one of the locations listed above. An incorrect VIN will lead to an inaccurate quote and potential restock fees for parts ordered.
While you are driving, your windshield is your window to the world and having a clear view is important to your safety on the road. Left unrepaired, minor chips and small cracks can become large cracks that will turn into the larger expense of a windshield replacement. The great news is that many of these chips and cracks can be repaired through a short process that usually takes around 30 minutes. Due to the requirements of the repair process, there is always a risk that a crack can become larger and unrepairable during the process. While this is unfortunate, we cannot take responsibility for this when it occurs.
There are may reasons your vehicle may need to visit us in the shop to complete the requested service. Some examples are:
Calibration (make this clickable to link to the calibration FAQ below)
Time required. Some services require the vehicle to open for a significant amount of time. It is better for the vehicle to be secured inside for these services.
Tools required. Not all tools travel well!
Environment required. Some services like window tint, require a clean, very low dust environment to be performed properly.
After a windshield replacement, many modern vehicles require calibration of systems that rely on cameras or sensors mounted on or near the windshield. When the glass is replaced, those sensors can shift slightly, which means they must be recalibrated for accuracy.
Examples of systems requiring calibration are:
Forward-facing camera calibration
- This camera is usually mounted behind the rear-view mirror.
- It supports features like:
- Lane Departure Warning
- Lane Keep Assist
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Adaptive Cruise Control (on some cars)
Rain/light sensor calibration
- If your car has automatic wipers or headlights, the sensor attached to the windshield may need recalibration or reinitialization.
Heads-Up Display (HUD) alignment (some vehicles)
- If your vehicle projects speed/navigation onto the windshield, the image position may need adjustment.
Examples of calibration types are:
Static calibration
- Done in the shop using targets and precise measurements.
- The car stays stationary.
Dynamic calibration
- Done by driving the vehicle at specific speeds on well-marked roads so the system relearns its alignment.
Combination
- Some vehicles require both.
